Marissa and Lewis Wedding Session

Well it was a late summer wedding in Alberta that we snuck into the beginning of September. The leaves were green and sun was out. Poor Lewis was so hot waiting for his bride to make her appearance for their first look! Who knew such glorious weather could show up so late in the season! What a spectacular afternoon and night we had celebrating! And to Marissa and Lewis’s credit, no matter how the day went sideways, they had glowing smiles throughout! Read on for all mishaps!

The day was amazingly organized and the wedding design was sleek and classic at every turn. From coordinating colours, to the floral details, this Calgary based wedding was stunning! It started with a seal on a wedding invitation and ended sealed by a first kiss between husband and wife. A blessed occasion.

After getting ready, we met the crew and bridal party at the stunning Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. Although the middle of the day is not an ideal time for photography we managed to capture the breathtaking view. I arrived and asked Lewis how he was feeling, he wasn’t sure if he should dance or throw up! As usual the first look was just the cure to all the nerves. Love and snuggles and into bridal portrait time.

Lewis started to overheat a little, so much so, that when we put the rings on to shoot portraits, he couldn’t get it off again! His finger started to turn red and go numb! Thanks goodness some A/C and a little cold water did the trick to get it off before the real ‘I do’!

After bridal party portraits, we headed to the ever stunning Water Valley Church. This place is a headed gem of Alberta Wedding Venues. With stunning natural light windows and historical woods, it is romantic, classic and intimate. If you are religious, like this couple, its religious origins speak to the soul, without having to compromise on light or a denominational service.

Marissa and Lewis were blessed to have friends with a fantastic property nearby in Water Valley, Alberta. Its a recently built haybale house with sleek concrete walls and a wrap around porch. A great marquee was set up for the guests and it was a relaxing and celebratory night. The couple even thought to provide cosy blankets for when the sun went down and the air was crisp and chilly.

Dinner was delayed by an hour due to the cater having a meat mix up. My own second shooter locked her keys in her car at the church and had to run into Cochrane for her spare. But that just gave us some extra portrait time around the property. Marissa’s dress was the making of a fairy tale princess, but it also attracted every creepy crawly who wanted to attend her. At one point a wasp had climbed inside her skirt and Lewis came to rescue with a paper plate to scoop it out of the netting. The makings of a superhero husband.

The night ended with speeches, games, cake and everyone’s favourite exit … SPARKLERS!

But just before the couple was going to make a grand run off to their honeymoon night … the limo pulled up the dirt drive way and …. Psssssshhhhhhh … a flat tire! I heard later that all went well and they were able to head to the honeymoon as planned. Thank goodness for a bride and groom with a happy attitude and an eye on what matters most – the long life of marriage to come!
